The process
- HFI-CUAs pass an examination demonstrating their mastery of the fundamental principles of user-centered design
- You can take the CUA certification exam without any training or preparation.
- However, the following four HFI courses provide a solid foundation in this knowledge:
Learn how to apply the key understandings about human vision, intellect, memory, and motor functions directly to design decisions.
Learn the methods of analyzing user requirements, which is the basis for designing software interfaces that are intuitive and easy to use.
Learn how to to create winning Web sites that balance user performance and visual appeal.
Be equipped with practical techniques to help you move the design into accordance with the user's needs, limitations, mental models and cognitive styles.

The CUA examination
- Several times a year, HFI offers a two and a half hour online exam
The exam is offered during a 24-hour period, without any prerequisites
- If you do not pass the exam, you can retake it within six months at no extra cost
- The CUA exam is designed to gauge knowledge and skills, and not to be a final exam of the CUA courses. Most questions are covered in the courses, and some questions test the ability to apply methodologies and tools to common design challenges

What you will receive after passing the CUA exam
You become a HFI-Certified Usability Analyst, and receive:
- An authenticated certification diploma
- Your name added to the HFI website CUA list
- A CUA icon with your name and certification number, upon request
